Collect Samples Without Invasiveness

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed women to collect their own vaginal samples at home for early cervical cancer screening. For some women, traditional screenings may be unacceptable or may cause embarrassment. The FDA's decision makes early cervical cancer screening more accessible and acceptable to more women.

Before You Use

Before collecting the urine sample, please try to:

  • Avoid drinking too many beverages
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before sampling
  • For women, avoid sampling during the menstrual period

Specimen Collection Process

  1. Collect urine in the sample bottle (either the first or last part of the urine stream is acceptable).
  2. Open the lid of the preservative vial and pour the preservative solution into the sample bottle containing the urine.
  3. Close the sample bottle tightly, and gently invert the bottle 3–5 times to mix the urine and preservative thoroughly.
  4. Place the sample bottle into the specimen bag and seal it.
  5. Place the sealed specimen bag into another sample bag and seal it as well.
  6. Fill out your personal information on the online form.
  7. Return the sample to the Medtimes Molecular Laboratory

How do I collect a sample by swap?

  1. To perform HPV self-sampling, wash your hands before removing the kit from the packaging.
  2. Then find a comfortable position, such as lying down with your buttocks on a cushion, knees bent and legs spread open, or standing upright with one foot on a chair.
  3. Spread your labia with one hand, and with the other, gently insert the kit into your vagina as far as you can, until you feel firm resistance or until you reach the top end of the vagina.
  4. Once it reaches the end of the vagina, rotate the kit 3-5 times to gather cells.
  5. Slowly remove the swab from the vagina and place it into a specimen bag.
  6. Close the bag with a seal strip, fill-in your personal info in the online form, and return within 24 hours after sample collection, via post or go to Medtimes center
